According to Dr Randeep Guleria, director of AIIMS, when Covid-19 was first reported in India, the anti-malarial drug hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) was used to treat patients. HCQ was additionally used among the healthcare workers for preventive purposes. “New evidence doesn’t strongly support the drug’s usefulness in treating admitted patients,” Guleria said.
